The historic double adobe Eaton House was built in 1881 by Col. Ethan Eaton, one of the founders of Socorro's NM Institute of Technology as well as a commander at Ft. Wingate. This 5,128 sq. ft. home sits on 1/2 acre of beautifully maintained grounds, portals, water feature and plantings and is a standing testament to an era of craftsmanship and care in building. Gorgeous details abound, from had carved/crafted door hinges, to the built-ins between parlor and dining room, honey colored wood floors, vigas, beams, latillas, old mine weight pulls to access the root cellar, beautiful door knobs and hand carved light switch. After the earthquake of 1906 Col Eaton put in star washers and rods to help the home stay solid and some are still visible today. One enters into the home in large Zaguan with dining and parlor, high ceilings and crown molding to the right, cozy den and master to the left. Newly redone kitchen has Silestone counters, country sink, 2 ovens, pot filler, prep sink, soft close drawers and charmingly unique dutch door to dining. Off the kitchen is an enormous pantry with freezer and fridge. The current owners ran a B&B here for a decade, and while no longer doing that, there is a wonderful possibility here to do the same with the two guest casitas, built in 1993 compete with fireplaces, outdoor areas and en suite baths.
